The Borno police command says about 250 persons have been convicted for various crimes within the past three months in the state.

Mohammed Lawan, commissioner of police in the state, spoke on Monday while addressing journalists on the accomplishment of the command in Maiduguri, the Borno capital.

Lawan said the convictions were secured between July 1 and September 30.

He said 537 suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from culpable homicide, robbery, vandalism, public nuisance, and gender-based violence during the period.

“The success recorded in timely prosecution and conviction of the suspects is as a result of the recently accented Borno state penal code law 2023,” the police commissioner said.

“This is part of the efforts of the governor in restoration of peace in the state for sustainable growth and development.”

He commended the administration of Babagana Zulum, governor of the state, for revisiting the Borno penal code.
