Kayode Egbetokun, the inspector-general of police (IGP), says 45,000 officers will be deployed to Anambra state for the November 8 governorship election.
Egbetokun, who was represented by Abayomi Sogunle, commissioner of police, spoke on Tuesday during a meeting of the inter-agency consultative committee on election security (ICCES) with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.
Egbetokun said the force would continue to provide adequate security for all electoral processes in all parts of Nigeria, and in particular regarding the upcoming governorship elections in Anambra State.
“The Nigerian Police Force is deploying 45,000 police officers from across the states of the federation to go to Anambra State to ensure that there is a peaceful election,” he said.

“Only federal agencies represented in ICCES will be permitted to participate in election security operations. Vigilante groups and non-statutory outfits will have no role to play.”
The IGP said tactical units would be deployed from November 1 for pre-election operations aimed at dismantling potential threats, while the usual restriction of movement would be enforced on election day.
He added that all entry and exit points into Anambra would be adequately manned.

Meanwhile, in his goodwill message, Olakunle Nafiu, director-feneral of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), assured the commission of their readiness to participate in the election.
He commended the assurances given by security agencies regarding the safety, welfare, and insurance of corps members who would serve as ad hoc staff.
“Our corps members are patriotic, vibrant, and committed to credible elections. We appeal to the people of Anambra state to treat them as their own children and ensure their safety,” he said.
