Prada Uzodimma, a lawyer and founder of Ability Life Initiative, has urged the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) to produce innovative learning tools for persons with disabilities (PWDs).

She made the call when she paid a visit to Khalil Halilu, executive vice chair of NASENI, at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

Uzodimma said the visit was to familiarise herself with the operations of the organisation and seek areas of possible collaboration between the agency and the foundation, with the view to improving the lives of PWDs.

She expressed satisfaction with the activities of NASENI in recent times, especially under the present management, and added that she wants to partner with the agency for innovative educational materials for PWDs.

“As an advocate of education and inclusivity, I strongly support the production of inclusive learning materials in schools, and a collaboration with NASENI can empower individuals with disabilities with technological learning tools and attract investors to support locally manufactured accessible devices,” she said.

“I am excited to embark on this promising partnership with NASENI.”

She expressed displeasure at the fact that a lot of students with disabilities, especially those in public schools, are not provided with learning aids. She said her organisation will intervene within its capacity.

“Every child has a right to inclusive education, including children with disabilities. No one should be excluded. That is what I stand for,” she added.

“We are going to schools and I also want to encourage public schools at all levels to take in people that have disabilities.”

Halilu commended Uzodimma and expressed his readiness to work with her foundation.
