Presidency commends senate for swift confirmation of new service chiefs

The presidency has expressed satisfaction with the senate’s swift screening and confirmation of the newly appointed service chiefs.

The senate on Wednesday confirmed President Bola Tinubu’s nominees for the positions of service chiefs after a thorough screening.

Tinubu had formally requested the senate’s confirmation of the service chiefs on Tuesday.

Basheer Lado, special adviser to the president on senate matters, in a statement on Wednesday, said the exercise reflected the administration’s commitment to effective governance and national security.

“As the special adviser to the president on senate matters, I facilitated this crucial interface to ensure a smooth and coordinated engagement between the executive and the legislature, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to effective governance and national security,” the statement reads.

He described the appointments of Olufemi Oluyede as chief of defence staff, Waidi Shaibu as chief of army staff, Idi Abbas as chief of naval staff, and Sunday Aneke as chief of air staff as a “strategic step towards strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture and fostering synergy among the armed forces.”

“I extend my profound appreciation to the president of the senate, the senate leadership, and distinguished senators for the prompt and thorough consideration that led to the confirmation of the new service chiefs,” he said.
