Akin Rotimi, chairman of the house of representatives committee on media and Lanre Arogundade, executive director of the International Press Centre (IPC), Lagos, among other speakers, have been scheduled to speak at the event commemorating the 2025 World Press Freedom Day on May 3.
NPO Reports—formerly known as Nigeria Politics Online — is organising the event with the theme ‘Fake news, political agendas, and the erosion of public trust’.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Semiu Okanlawon, publisher of the NPO Reports, said the event is meant to deepen conversations on the alarming rise of fake news and its viral use as a political weapon.
“You look around and you see deliberate fabrications pushed through some otherwise credible media channels all in a bid to gain upper hands in a political struggle,” the statement reads.
