Private jet crash-lands in Kano airport

An aircraft operated by the Flybird Aircraft Management Services Ltd has crash-landed at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano state.

According to NAN, the Abuja-Kano flight, with registration number 5N-ISB, crash-landed on Sunday morning.

In a statement by Flybird’s corporate communications department, the company said all 11 passengers and crew members onboard were uninjured and safely disembarked from the flight.

Flybird said the flight crew followed all established operational and safety procedures, bringing the aircraft to a safe stop.

“The aircraft has been secured, and the incident has been formally reported to the relevant aviation authorities,” the statement reads.

“A detailed technical inspection and investigation are ongoing in line with regulatory requirements.

“Flybird Aircraft Management Services reiterates its commitment to safety and operational excellence.”

Flybird Aircraft, a non-scheduled operator based in Abuja, received the air operator certificate (AOC) from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in June 2024.

Seven months later, Flybird’s Accra-bound aircraft was involved in an incident that led to the loss of two engines mid-air.

Similar incidents involving aircraft of various types have occurred in the past.

On May 24, two people were injured when a training aircraft operated by the Aviation Training School crash-landed at Ilorin airport, the Kwara state capital.

On December 11, 2024, a cargo aircraft operated by Allied Air crash-landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja (NAIA) after one of its landing gears failed.

An helicopter crash, which occurred on October 24, 2024, killed three people in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
