A private jet that departed the federal capital territory (FCT) on Friday crash landed just before the runway at the airport in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

The jet operated by Flint Aero with the call sign 5N-AMM reportedly had 10 persons onboard.

Adebayo Adelabu, minister of power, was reportedly among the 10 people onboard but that has not been independently confirmed.

No deaths were reportedly recorded but the aircraft was substantially damaged after it came to a stop inside the bush surrounding the runway.

Tunji Oketunbi, director, public affairs and consumer protection of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), confirmed the development to TheCable on Saturday.

Oketunbi said a probe has already been launched into the incident.

“We have commenced an investigation and our investigators are on ground,” the director said.

On Monday, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) predicted cloudiness, thunderstorms and sunny skies across the country from Monday to Wednesday.

“Cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are expected over the southern region with prospects of morning thunderstorms over parts of Rivers, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom,” the forecast reads.

“Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are expected over parts of Ondo, Edo, Ekiti, Oyo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River.

“On Wednesday, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Benue and Kogi.

Airline operators were advised to avail themselves of weather reports from NiMet while drawing up their flight plans.
