A student of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL), has been fatally stabbed during an armed robbery.
Wasiu Abiodun, Niger state police PRO, told TheCable that the incident occurred around 2:30 am on Monday.
The case has ignited public outrage and student protests in Lapai, Niger state.
Abiodun said unknown assailants attacked a student lodge in the Ndakitabu area on the outskirts of Lapai.

He said a distress call was received at approximately 3:00 am, prompting a swift response from Lapai Division operatives.
However, the attackers had fled before officers arrived.
One of the students, identified only as Jafar, was discovered with a stab wound to the neck.

He was rushed to the General Hospital in Lapai, where he was pronounced dead.
News of the fatal attack quickly spread, triggering protests by students who barricaded the Agaie–Lapai Road for hours, demanding justice.
The demonstration caused significant disruption to vehicular movement until police teams were deployed to restore order.
Adamu Elleman, the state’s commissioner of police, has condemned the attack and ordered an immediate manhunt for the perpetrators.

He assured the public of a thorough investigation, vowing to bring those responsible to justice.
While calm has reportedly returned to the area, students and residents are calling for enhanced security measures in and around student communities.
