A protest erupted in the Barnawa area of Kaduna metropolis on Monday evening, following the alleged killing of a young man by operatives of the Special Joint Task Force (SJTF), a security outfit established to combat urban crime and drug abuse.

The task force, which includes personnel from the army, police, Department of State Services (DSS), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), had reportedly stormed a known black spot near Barnawa market.

Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, and the identity of the victim has not been officially disclosed.

It is also uncertain whether the victim was deliberately targeted or hit by a stray bullet.

The alleged killing sparked outrage among youths, who took to the streets in large numbers, blocking roads and burning tyres along the major route connecting Barnawa to other parts of the city.

The protest caused significant disruption to vehicular movement, forcing commuters to seek alternative routes.

The protesters demanded justice for the deceased, expressing frustration over the incident.
