Protesters demonstrate against AIG Aina in Abuja
The Police Service Commission (PSC) says it will investigate allegations of bribery and abuse of office against Emmanuel Aina, an assistant inspector-general of police (AIG).
The commission’s decision follows a protest at its headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, by members of the Centre for Human Rights and Advocacy in Africa Network (CHRAAN), who demanded an investigation into Aina’s conduct.
The protest came after CHRAAN alleged that Aina solicited and received bribes from some police officers and private individuals to influence postings and promotions within the force.
The group also accused the police chief of using his position to intimidate subordinates and meddle in internal investigations.

In a statement on Thursday, the PSC said it would examine the complaints and ensure justice is served to all parties involved.
“The commission will continue to hold the police accountable for its actions and inactions, but we urge Nigerians to also support and cooperate with the force to enable it deliver on its mandate,” the statement reads.
The PSC added that it has launched a whistleblowing policy to encourage citizens to report cases of official corruption within the commission and other institutions under its oversight.
