Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo state, has advised youths to use their technology skills for the campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said this during the inauguration of the PDP youth campaign council in Benin, Edo state capital, on Thursday.

The governor said the youth should be proactive in spreading the party’s message by contributing their physical and mental energy to the cause.

He advised them to shun violence and uphold a fair and peaceful democratic process in the 2023 elections.

“The way our politics is now being run, honestly you are the guys who can make it happen. Our politics today is quite imbued in technology, quite imbued in ICT and social media. If you are not the active participants in the political system, it’s your fault because you’re going to be the biggest losers,” he said.

“The most important role you’d be playing is taking that message, we expect that you guys would be the ones to redesign the message to send word of hope that PDP is coming to provide hope for this country.

“There’s no room for violence because violence cannot win us any elections. If anything, it’s detrimental.

“You have to say look, let’s stop anybody from causing violence because if there’s violence, they’ll cancel the votes in that unit. So you don’t want that at all.

“So, that is the thinking behind segregating the youth and giving them their own avenue in this political process. So we can begin to maturity you, to ensure that our whole democratic experience now rests on you.”
