PZ budgets over N3m for winners of Chemistry challenge

Prizes in cash and kind worth over three million naira would be won in this year’s PZ Cussons Carex Chemistry Competition (PZCCC), the company has revealed.

The corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative of PZ Cussons Foundation, which is now in its third edition, has invited entries from SS3 students of public and private schools in Lagos State.

Entries through the project website, www.pzcarexchemistrychallenge.com, are free and will close on November 4.

Speaking at the launch of the programme on Tuesday, Oluwaseun Ayeni, Carex brand manager, said the ultimate winner of the three-stage competition will win a total of N900,000 cash for himself, his or her Chemistry teacher and school, in addition to a laptop, trophy and gold medal.

He added that the first runner-up will be entitled to a cumulative cash prize of N660,000 for himself or herself, as well as the Chemistry teacher and the school, in addition to a laptop and silver medal.

Tunde Oyelola, vice chairman of PZ Cussons Nigeria, who is also a member of the board of trustees of PZ Cussons Foundation, explained that the CSR initiative was designed to stimulate and promote the learning of Chemistry among Nigerian secondary school students.

Other objectives, according to him, include developing the science IQ of secondary school students and demonstrating the relevance and role of Chemistry in the society.

Modupe Badiru, who announced the call for entries, said the first stage of the competition would hold in 10 centres across Lagos state and only two students from a particular school would be allowed to participate in the exercise.
