Rangers overcome Wikki in five-goal thriller

Rangers defeated Wikki Tourists on Wednesday to earn a second consecutive victory.

The defending champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) won the rescheduled game 3-2.

The Flying Antelopes took the lead when Bobby Clement rose above Wikki’s defense in the 12th minute to head home a corner kick by Bright Silas.

Ifeanyi George scored his second goal in two games when he converted from the penalty spot after Abdullahi Musa handled the ball in the 40th minute.

Chukwudi Samuel reduced the deficit through a penalty awarded to Wikki in the 51st minute but Ousmane Pape restored the home side’s two-goal lead 20 minutes later.

Rangers were pegged back again eight minutes later when Shammah Tanze scored for the visitors, but the Enugu-based side stood their ground to end the game victorious.

The win steered Rangers away from bottom of the table to 19th place, with three more outstanding matches to be played.
