Rasheed Idowu to face Ghana’s Dodoo in light-heavyweight boxing fight on Dec 26

Rasheed Idowu, popularly known as ID Buster

Rasheed Idowu, popularly known as “ID Buster” and the reigning Universal Boxing Organisation (UBO) African light-heavyweight champion, will face Ghana’s Nii Offei Dodoo at GOtv Boxing Night 34.

The bout is one of six fights scheduled for the event, to be held at Tafawa Balewa Square on December 26.

ID Buster has won six of his eight professional fights, defeating Egypt’s Ahmed Swedy in April to retain his UBO title.

The last time the 26-year-old faced a Ghanaian, the match ended with a controversial decision.

Idowu knocked down Bastie Samie twice during the contest, which was held in Accra in 2024, but the officials ruled the fight a draw. The verdict was eventually overturned in favour of Idowu after days of protest from the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC).

Dodoo, on the other hand, will go into the bout against ID Buster with a reputation for durability and tactical discipline. These qualities have made him one of Ghana’s most respected light-heavyweights.

His camp has already described the fight as “a statement opportunity” and promised to halt Idowu’s ascent.

Similarly, Idowu said his respect for Dodoo “ends at the bell,” and he is “ready to give fans a performance they won’t forget”.

Flykite Productions, the organisers of the promotion, say GOtv Boxing Night 34 is designed to deliver a festive-season spectacle, featuring elite match-ups, emerging talent and top-tier entertainment.

With Nigeria–Ghana boxing rivalries historically producing fireworks, expectations are high that the Idowu–Dodoo showdown will be the night’s most electrifying contest and possibly a springboard toward bigger international opportunities for the victor.
