The everlasting arm parish (TEAP) of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Abuja organised a career conference for teenagers on Saturday.

The program titled ‘a brave new world: who dares, wins’ was aimed at teaching the teenagers — ages between 12 and 19 years — the importance of taking responsibility of matters regarding their future.

It also sought to make the teens know that they can accomplish their goals no matter what the odds may be.

Those who spoke at the event include Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, chairman of Talent city inc.; Omowale David-Ashiru, group managing director (Nigeria), NewGlobe Education; and Chinedu Azodoh, co-founder of Max.ng.

Speaking in the first session, Azodoh narrated how he founded his company and got investors despite needing a large sum of money as an investment.

Making reference to both the challenges and successes recorded in his company, he said life has its ups and downs and encouraged the teens to keep pushing in the face of obstacles.

He also urged the teenagers to acquire skills, noting that “Nigeria’s economy is in a bad situation”.

“There are no jobs. We need as young people, to be actively acquiring skills,” he said.

On her part, David-Ashiru taught the teenagers about the three Bs; believe, be bold, and break ceilings.

She said the first step to reaching one’s career goals is to start dreaming and believe that one can achieve their dream.

“Be Bold. You cannot just be daydreaming, you have to be bold. The only way you can be outstanding is by being bold. Being bold involves doing something. No matter how little, you have to start,” she added.

She also explained that for one to become bold, one must learn more and then practice.

“There’s only one you, you’re unique. Don’t let the world put a limitation on what you can do,” she said.

On his part, Aboyeji said everyone has a role to play in a “brave new world”. He told the teenagers that they need to first know who they are before they can contribute to the “brave new world”.

“The brave new world is in your hands. Ask yourself who you are. You need to keep reminding themselves who they are; a child of God. Ask God why you are meant to be here. If your path is about what people are doing, you’re not going to be successful,” he said.
