Reckless politics fuelling Nigeria’s insecurity, Nn’emeka Maduegbuna

Nn’emeka Maduegbuna, chairman of C&F Porter Novelli, says Nigeria is confronting a security crisis aggravated by political recklessness and weak government communication.

In a statement on Wednesday, Maduegbuna said that the recent incidents of abduction of students in Kebbi, attack on worshippers in a Kwara church, and the killing of a senior army officer in Borno have intensified damaging narratives about the country internationally.

“The government’s response, both in action and communication, has been woefully inadequate,” he said.

”The seeming inability to address these challenges head-on has emboldened our enemies and eroded the trust of our citizens. The situation is further exacerbated by the reckless actions of politicians, who prioritize personal interests over national well-being.

“The consequences of inaction are dire. Nigeria’s reputation is at stake, and with it, our economic prospects, foreign investment, and global standing. The communications onslaught against Nigeria will only intensify, further isolating us from the international community.”

He called for a coordinated national response involving government agencies, civil society and the private sector to tackle insecurity and rebuild confidence.

Maduegbuna urged leaders to act decisively and protect future generations.

“We must speak with one voice, conveying a clear message of resolve and determination. The time for excuses is over; the time for action is now,” he added.
