Remi Tinubu, senator representing Lagos central, says she was “hurt” by the treatment meted to her husband Bola Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), after the 2015 elections.
The senator said her husband was “trashed” despite helping the APC win the presidency.
“I was hurt [by] what they did to my husband after the campaign. He didn’t say a thing. We were running three campaigns in my house, and for him to be trashed like that…” she said Monday in an interview on TVC’s Your View.
“But I saw somebody who has love for this country. I am not the type of woman who speaks in a man’s ear. If I want to do anything, I pray for him more. Occasionally, I will chip in. I said ‘you are still helping out, why are you helping out. He said ‘this country matters to me more’.”
Commenting on the 2019 presidential election, Tinubu said “Buhari is still the candidate to beat”, noting that his famed integrity and popularity among poor Nigerians speak volumes.
“Leadership is inspiration, management is technical,” she said.
“If you have all the degree, you are smart, you are savvy, It’s not about leadership. How many are you inspiring?
“Have you seen the poor? They trust him than any other crop of leader you have today. I am not campaigning for him because I have looked at the dynamics. The poor still trust him.”
Tinubu described the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan as “reckless”, blaming it for the myriads of problems the country is tackling.
She said: “Jonathan paid a lot of people to shut up. His administration was reckless and that is what has gotten us to where we are today.”
Tinubu disclosed that she will seek election into the senate for the third time in 2019.
