Remo Stars’ players dominate as Chelle unveils home-based Eagles squad for CHAN

The home-based Eagles in training ahead of the CHAN in August

Eric Chelle has unveiled the home-based Eagles’ 23-player squad for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in August.

The team comprises eight players from the Remo Stars team, which was recently crowned champion of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Second-placed Rivers United have three players in the CHAN squad, the same as Ikorodu City, which finished fourth in the league.

Also on the list is Anas Yusuf of Nasarawa United, the top goalscorer of the just concluded NPFL season, and Godwin Obaje, who won the league’s top marksman award in 2016.

The contingent travelled out of the country to Zanzibar, Tanzania, on Thursday evening, aboard an Ethiopian Airlines aircraft. The team has been training for several weeks at the Remo Stars Sports Institute in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State.

The team will embark on a second-phase training camp in Zanzibar, from July 25 to 31, before moving into official accommodation on the island.

The eighth edition of CHAN will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from August 2 to 30th.
