Kemi Adeosun, minister of finance, has resigned.
Daily Trust reports that she resigned over the case of her alleged falsified National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) certificate.
Although TheCable could not get an official confirmation of the report, it gathered that the minister was still at the ministry working as at Friday afternoon.
Adeosun reportedly failed to participate in the NYSC programme as at when due.
The NYSC programme is mandatory for all graduates to qualify for gainful employment in Nigeria.
According to a report by Premium Times, the minister’s exemption certificate was purportedly signed in September 2009 by Yusuf Bomoi, a retired brigadier-general.
However, Bomoi officially left NYSC on February 13, 2009, giving rise to queries on the originality of the certificate.
Commenting on the issue, Maharazu Tsiga, former director-general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), had said the exemption certificate allegedly given to Kemi Adeosun, minister of finance, could not have been issued by the corps.
“There is no way that somebody would come and sign after hand over,” Tsiga had said.
“In as much as you have not served, no matter how old you grow, in as much as you were not mobilised to serve at the time you were supposed to serve, they can never give you exemption. You must go for service.
