Report: MTN warns of possible disruption to its service in Nigeria amid rising insecurity

MTN has warned of a potential disruption to its service in Nigeria amid rising insecurity in different parts of the country.

MTN, in a message seen by Reuters, informed its customers of possible delay in service delivery.

“Sadly, we must inform you that with the rising insecurity in different parts of Nigeria; service delivery to your organization may be impacted in the coming days,” MTN was quoted to have said.

“This means that in some cases, our technical support team may not be able to get to your site and achieve optimum turnaround time in fault management as quickly as possible.’’

MTN Nigeria became the first company to acknowledge possible disruption to its services due to insecurity in the country.

According to a report by SB Morgan (SBM) Intelligence, hundreds of Nigerians were killed in a series of violent attacks that occurred in different parts of the country in April.

In a recently published ‘Telecoms Data report’, by National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), number of active internet subscribers reduced by 6.06 percent in the first quarter of 2021 (Q1 2021).

Voice subscriptions also recorded a reduction of 5.96 percent as number of users fell from 204.6 million in Q4 2020 to 192.4 million in Q1 2021.

Meanwhile, Data from NBS show that MTN has the highest number of active internet subscribers in Nigeria which is about 61.58 million, followed by Glo, Airtel, and 9Mobile with 38.81 million, 37.78million, and 6.42million respectively.
