Hundreds of residents have been forced to relocate from communities across Adamawa and Jigawa states, following the destruction of various properties by flood.
According to NAN, the situation in Adamawa was confirmed by Mohammed Suleiman, executive secretary of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), on Saturday.
According to ADSEMA, 66 houses and 150 farmlands were ravaged by flood in Lababiri and Bakta communities in Shelleng LGA in Adamawa state.
Suleiman explained that the disaster in Adamawa occurred during the week, following heavy rainfall which lasted for two days.
“The agency received a report of the incident in Lababiri village, where more than 150 farmlands and about 66 houses were destroyed by the flood,” he said.
According to Suleiman residents of the affected areas are currently taking refuge in neighbouring communities, while the number of casualties have not yet been confirmed.
He added that officials of ADSEMA have been deployed to the affected communities.
Meanwhile, in Jigawa, over 120 households were said to have been destroyed following a flooding incident at Unguwar Tsallake area in Guri LGA of the state.
Sanusi Doro, council information officer for Unguwar Tsallake, disclosed on Saturday that flood occurred after heavy rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday.
“Some of the houses have already collapsed, while others were submerged,” he said.
“Most the occupants are now staying in their relatives’ residences, as the water has denied them access to their houses.”
Doro added that the general hospital in the area had been cut off after the rainfall, noting that residents had to find their way through the flood to access the health facility.
