Residents kill suspect ‘who shot police officer while resisting arrest’ in Imo

Residents of Awarra community in Ohaji-Egbema LGA in Imo state have killed one Chinwe Okwuegbunwa, for shooting a police officer.

According to a source who narrated the ordeal to TheCable, Okwuegbunwa was known for “causing nuisance in the community”.

The source said the police officer was trying to arrest Okwuegbunwa, but the suspect snatched the rifle of the officer and shot him.

The officer died as a result of the shooting.

“It is very unfortunate to inform you that a police officer was killed in Awarra community in Ohaji-Egbema LGA today,” the resident told TheCable on Wednesday.

Obinna Okonkwo, another resident from the community, condemned the shooting of the officer.

“Our community can now experience peace now that he has been paid back in his own coin,” Okonkwo added.

“We can now sleep with our two eyes closed.”

When contacted, Michael Abattam, spokesman of the Imo police command, confirmed the incident.

He added that security agencies will work towards ensuring that peace and order are restored in the community.
