Residents set two suspected robbers ablaze in Imo

Two suspected robbers have been set ablaze in Eziama Obaire community in Nkwerre LGA, Imo state.

TheCable understands that a vigilante group in Eziama Obaire, on Thursday, arrested four suspected robbers for allegedly attempting to snatch motorcycles in the community

A source within the community told TheCable that some residents attacked the four suspects after their arrest by the vigilante group.

Two of the suspected robbers were eventually set ablaze, while the other two were said to have escaped with injuries.

“The four suspected armed robbers came from Okwudor axis through Nkume to Amucha road, where they pounced on their victim at Nkume road junction by Mgbabano-Umuaka road, Eziama Obaire in Nkwerre local government area of Imo,” the source said.

“Local vigilante within the area accosted and engaged the robbers.”

When Michael Abattam, Imo police spokesperson, was contacted, he said the command is yet to be informed of the incident.

“I will contact the divisional police officer in charge of the area to ascertain what actually happened,” Abattam said.

The community is said to have experienced an increase in criminal activities in recent times.
