Retired police officers in Imo demand exit from contributory pension scheme

Some retired police officers in Imo state have asked to the federal government to remove them from the contributory pension scheme (CPS).

Speaking during a protest at the entrances of the state police command and government house in Owerri on Tuesday, the retired officers described scheme as “obnoxious”.

The demonstrators chanted solidarity songs and held placards with different inscriptions like: “We are retired police officers”, “Exit us from contributory pension”, “Mr. President, police pension board is our stand, we say no to CPS”, “Mr. president kindly exit NPF under the obnoxious contributory pension scheme (CPS) now”, among others.

The senior citizens said their welfare and dignity have been neglected for too long.

The retired officers are demanding the approval of the N758.9 billion bond by Tinubu to clear the pension liability.

The group said the Nigeria Police Force is “the only establishment where more than three different pension schemes are operated, covering AIGs, DIGs, and the IGP”.
