Sylvester Imonina, publicity secretary of Delta state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says there was no plot to divert revalidation exercise materials to Ovie Omo-Agege, the deputy senate president. 

On Wednesday, Festus Keyamo, minister of state, labour and employment, had warned the chairman of the chapter against influencing the exercise in favour of a leader in the state.

The minister said if such happened, he would mobilise all other leaders against his committee.

Subsequently, the revalidation exercise was suspended, as the crisis in the chapter heightened between the factions.

Responding to the allegations, Imonina said there was no connivance between the deputy senate president and Jones Erue, the state chairman.

“The Party states unequivocally that in line with the agreement reached by the major Leaders of the Party in the State, the leaders were granted the indulgence to suggest names of those to represent their interest at all levels. The Party at States level, particularly in Delta State were not given the opportunity to make an input on those to be in charge of the exercise in the State,” Imonina said in a statement.

“It might interest everyone to know that even the Chairman of the Party in the State, Prophet Jones Ode Erue had no input on who and/ or those to man the Units/his Ward! In spite of the above observed anomaly, members of the Committee sent from Abuja have been following religiously the directive of the National without interference from the State. Moreover, it should be noted that as at today, no material in connection with the exercise had been distributed.

“It is surprising that some persons who do not have the interest of the Party at heart decided to feed some Party Leaders and Stakeholders outside the State with false information that the State Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Party, Prophet Jones Ode Erue had diverted materials for the exercise in connivance with His Excellency, the Deputy President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Distinguished Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege. Nothing is farther from the truth than this!

“The Party is not unaware of the fact that a handful political desperados who want the State Chairman of the Party removed at all cost are the merchants of this present political assault on the Party. The said false alarm that led to the truncate of the exercise as scheduled should be condemned in its entirety.”
