14:46 2015

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has published the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of states in the federation, with Lagos emerging the most viable state with a 2014 IGR of N275,163,978,675.95 and Zamfara the least viable with N3,149,630,553.98.

In distant second is Rivers State with N89,112,448,347.58, which is N186 billion less than the Lagos figure, while Delta state was third, generating N42,819,209,025.24.

According to the NBS, about 13 states are yet to report on their IGRs for 2014 and they are: Abia, Adamawa, Borno, Cross River, Ebonyi, Edo, Gombe, Jigawa, Kano, Kwara, Ondo, Taraba and Yobe.

Zamfara had the least IGR with N3,149,630,553.98, behind Ekiti, which generated N3,462,341,448.32; and Kebbi with N3,834,143,641.95.

The figures justify calls on states to improve their IGRs and diversify their sources of revenue instead of depending on the federal allocations from oil revenue, which is dwindling.
