Since the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the outcome of the recall exercise of Dino Melaye, senator representing Kogi west, social media has been filled with various reactions.

Announcing the result of the verification of signatures – one of the steps in recalling a lawmaker- exercise on Sunday morning, Ukertor Moti, the declaration officer for the exercise, said a referendum — the next step in the recall process — would not hold.

Many constituents did not partake in the verification exercise on Saturday.

Melaye has already thanked his people for standing by him, promising not to let them down. Meanwhile, here is what people are saying on Twitter:

I hope the Federal and state governments have learnt a lesson today. Fake popularity can not match real popularity even when it is in a hospital. Grow up! focus your efforts on improving the lot of Nigerians instead of focusing it on destroying your real and imagined enemies.

But hubris got the best of him.

Expect a cabinet reshuffle in Kogi in the coming weeks.

Having had his ego bruised and deflated, Yahaya Bello, will blame his appointees for the disaster that Dino’s recalled has now become.
