Rights group tells Adeboye to reverse his resignation or face law suit

Rights group tells Adeboye to reverse his resignation or face law suit

The Citizens Advocacy for Social and Economic Rights (CASER) says Enoch Adeboye should rescind his decision to step down as the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in the country or face a law suit that will compel him to do so.

Adeboye quit the position after a code was put into effect by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (PRC).

He named Joshua Obayemi as the new national overseer.

The code, which stipulates a 20-year maximum tenure for heads of religious groups and civil rights organisations, was suspended by the federal government on Monday.

In a statement on Tuesday, Frank Tietie, executive director of the group, said CASER was acting, not only in the interest of members of the RCCG, who respect Adeboye, but also in the interest the church generally.

“CASER urges the highly-revered Pastor Adeboye to change his mind and rescind his resignation as the general overseer of RCCG,” Tietie said in a statement.

“Where, therefore, the holy man of God refuses to review his decision to resign, CASER shall seek an order of court to compel him to remain as the general overseer.”
