The International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) has honoured Hyacinth Alia, governor of Benue, with humanitarian service awards.

Tersoo Kula, chief press secretary to the governor, said in a statement that the award was in recognition of Alia’s efforts in advancing human rights within and outside the state.

The award was presented to the governor in Abuja on Tuesday by Rafal Wasik, secretary-general of the commission.

“The ward was in recognition of the governor’s commitment towards securing the lives and property of the people of Benue state, and for his administration’s determination to ensure the return of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) back to their ancestral homes,” Wasik said.
