The world’s hottest celebs turned up in oriental style for hottest dress up party of the year –the Met Gala, formally known as the Costume Institute Gala.
The Met Gala is an annual fundraising event for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. It marks the grand opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit.
Each year’s event celebrates the theme of that year’s Costume Institute exhibition, and the exhibition also sets the dress theme of the night for guests attending.
This year’s event was Themed ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’.
The biggest gaze magnets of the event were usual suspects Rihanna, Kim Kardashian and Beyonce – women who, rather than settle for the understated style choices, always go big and over.
Rihanna grabbed the fashion headlines with the most cumbersome look in a draping Guo Pei gown which had its own entourage as she walked down the red carpet.
Beyonce also dazzled in glittery, colourful see-through Givenchy dress that had Jay-Z beside and a carrier behind not to be outdone, while Kim was a grand beauty in an all white custom see-through Roberto Cavalli dress.
