The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), on Monday, flagged off a revenue recovery programme, tagged ‘Engaged Consultants for the Revenue Recovery Exercise’.
The exercise was inaugurated in Abuja on Monday, partnership with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), according to NAN.
Speaking at the event, Mohammed Shehu, chairman of the RMAFC, said the exercise aims to strengthen Nigeria’s fiscal governance by ensuring all revenues are fully accounted for and remitted into the federation account.
“This exercise is not a routine administrative action, but a deliberate, result-oriented innovation designed to strengthen fiscal governance and ensure every recoverable naira due to the federation is transparently remitted,” NAN quoted Shehu as saying.

Shehu said the exercise is a strategic initiative to plug revenue leakages, enhance transparency, and boost the fiscal capacity of the three tiers of government, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.
According to the RMAFC chairman, the initiative, backed by Tinubu and the FIRS, aims to identify and recover non-remitted revenues across sectors, fulfilling the commission’s constitutional responsibility to boost revenue generation.
Also speaking, Zacch Adedeji, the FIRS chairman, represented by Shettima Tamadi, coordinating director at the service, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to collaborating with the RMAFC to achieve the recovery programme’s objectives.

“Nigeria has a huge revenue gap, but with stronger collaboration between agencies and partners, we can bridge that gap and achieve sustainable fiscal growth,” Adedeji said.
On his part, Joseph Okechukwu, secretary to the RMAFC, urged the consultants to work diligently to complete the six-month assignment, ensuring prompt return of identified recoverable revenues to the federation account to support national development priorities.
Temitayo Ojeleke, representing the consultants, pledged professionalism, transparency, and measurable results, describing the engagement as a “national call to duty” to strengthen Nigeria’s revenue base.
