Ronaldo: My wedding to hold after 2026 World Cup… with the trophy present

Cristiano Ronaldo says he plans to officially tie the nuptial knot with Georgina Rodriguez, his fiancée, after winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ronaldo spoke in a chat with Piers Morgan on Tuesday.

The 40-year-old footballer engaged with Rodriguez in August after being together for nine years. The engagement was sealed with an oval-shaped diamond ring weighing approximately 35 carats.

Speaking on when the couple will finalise their relationship, Ronaldo said the plan is to hold the wedding after the forthcoming World Cup.

The Portuguese added that he would love to have won the 2026 World Cup, with the trophy present at the ceremony.

“We don’t have a date yet [for the wedding], but we plan to do it after the World Cup, with the trophy,” Ronaldo said.

“We didn’t plan that [the venue] because she’s not someone who likes big parties. She likes private things, and I will respect that.”

Ronaldo is considered one of the greatest footballers in sports history alongside Lionel Messi. The rivalry between the duo has dominated football debates for almost two decades.

In 2022, Messi led Argentina to the World Cup in Qatar, and many argued that the triumph placed the former Barcelona star ahead of Ronaldo in the debate.

In response, Ronaldo said it is unfair to define his entire career on whether he wins the World Cup or not.

“It’s not a dream for me to win the World Cup. To define what?” he said.

“To define if I’m one of the best in history? To win one competition with six or seven games? You think it’s fair?”

The 2026 World Cup will be co-hosted by the US, Mexico and Canada.

Portugal are on the verge of qualifying for the competition. They lead Group F of the European qualifiers.
