Cristiano Ronaldo is in quarantine in Portugal after Daniele Rugani, his teammate at Juventus, tested positive for coronavirus.

The Portuguese star had returned to Madeira, his hometown, to visit his mother, who recently suffered a stroke, before news broke out on Wednesday night that Rugani has contracted the virus.

The Italian defender had taken to his official Twitter page to say that he was fine, despite testing positive for the killer virus.

“You will have read the news and that is why I want to reassure all those who worry about me, it’s okay. I urge everyone to follow the rules because this virus makes no distinction. Let’s do it for ourselves, for our loved ones and for those around us,” Rugani’s tweet reads in English.

Last Sunday, Ronaldo and Rugani had shared a dressing room after Juventus defeated Inter Milan 2-0 behind closed doors.

According to Quotidiano Sportivo, Ronaldo is self-isolating and staying in Portugal until he knows it is safe to return to Italy.

Meanwhile, Italian authorities have suspended all sports in the country until at least April 3, due to COVID-19.

The number of the virus cases in the European nation has soared in recent weeks. As of Wednesday, there were 12,462 infections and 827 deaths — numbers second only to China.
