Manchester United returned to Premier League action on Saturday to thump title holders 4-1 at Old Trafford to end talks of a crisis after three losses in three games last week.

Jose Mourinho dropped Captain Wayne Rooney for the encounter against Leicester, and Juan Mata, who was handed the Number 10 role for the first time this season, repaid his manager’s faith with a super strike and an assist.

Leicester began the game the stronger side but United soon took over, and Chris Smalling, captain on the day, powered home a corner in the 22nd minute.

Mata made it two on 37 minutes after exchanging passes with Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford, and firing home from the edge of the box when it looked easier to blast it wide.

Rashford put United three up after the Leicester defence went to sleep, allowing the teenage striker to poke home a short corner that was followed by a lowly-driven cross.

Pogba capped a magnificent United first half by heading home a Daley Blind corner three minutes from half time.

There was less drama in the second half, but Leicester youngster Damarai Gray made up for it with an atrocious long-range strike that David de Gea could do absolutely nothing about.
