Speculation over Wayne Rooney’s future has dominated football headlines for the past 24 hours.

The Manchester United skipper is likely to depart Old Trafford between now and the summer.

His agent, Paul Stratford, is said to be in China to thrash out a mega-money deal.

Since he broke Sir Bobby Charlton’s 250 goal record for Manchester United on January 29, Rooney haś been sidelined.

A handful of Chinese clubs are after the England captain, and interested parties are said to be offering over £700,000 per week in wages.

The Chinese Super League transfer window doesn’t close until February 28, meaning Rooney could make his move as soon as next week.

If the England captain were to head to China, he would become the highest paid footballer on the planet.

Meanwhile, Rooney has been recalled for the EFL Cup final on Sunday against Southampton.

With Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Michael Carrick sustaining injuries in United’s Europa League 1-0 win against St Etienne, the door might be open for Rooney to return to the starting lineup.

But should he leave before then, Rooney will be passing up the chance to lead the Red Devils to Sunday’s EFL Cup final.
