Russia sack Capello as head coach
The Russian Football Union (RFU) have parted ways with Fabio Capello after three years in the post.
The former England manager signed a four-year contract extension in 2014 to keep him under contract until the 2018 World Cup, which will be staged in Russia.
But the 69-year-old has been dismissed after a poor Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.
Russia have eight points from six games and face the prospect of needing to win a playoff to reach the championship to be hosted in France.
The RFU said it had “reached an agreement to terminate his contract by mutual consent” but not after parting with £10.7m in compensation for the Italian.
Capello previously earned a £1.5 million payoff after he resigned as England boss in 2012.
