The vice-chancellor of Sa’adatu Rimi university, Yahaya Bunkure, says the school will provide tuition-free education to persons with disabilities (PWDs).

He made this known during an interactive session with the leadership of Kano state correspondents’ chapel, Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), in his office.

“For us here in Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education, I want to tell you that we run a partially free education system,” he said.

“Tuition fee is free for all students, including indigenes and non-indigenes, in this institution.

“Those with physical disabilities are enjoying free education. The policy was initiated by former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.”

He also said the university would be ready to absorb students who drop out from other universities because of skyrocketing registration and tuition fees.

The vice-chancellor appealed to corporate organisations and well-meaning Nigerians to assist the university with funds.

He also expressed appreciation to the federal government for supporting the school financially so far.

The institution, which was known as Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Gandu, Kano, became a university on February 13, 2023 after receiving a licence to that effect from the National Universities Commission (NUC).
