Sam Amadi: How can a minister on torn and worn-out seat speak on tackling coronavirus?

Sam Amadi, former chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), says Nigeria’s ability to contain coronavirus is in doubt.

Nigeria recorded its first case of the disease on Friday, following the arrival of an Italian businessman from Milan, which has the highest rate of the infection in Europe.

The patient, who tested positive to the virus on Friday, has been in Nigeria since Monday.

Osagie Ehanire, minister of health, held a press briefing earlier in the day and he assured Nigerians that the federal government is on top of the situation.

But in a tweet posted hours after the briefing, Amadi  criticised the minister, saying the “torn and worn-out seat” he sat on while addressing the country is a reflection of the preparedness of Nigeria to fight the disease.

“Fellow Nigerians what a shame? See the torn and worn-out seat of Nigeria’s Minister of Health. So how can a ministry that can (can’t) have a decent seat have an effective containment plan. What a shame!” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, Ehanire said the relevant authorities are working to find out where the coronavirus patient has been to and whoever he came in contact with since he arrived in Nigeria.
