Sambo Marafa: Why I quit Matawalle’s govt

Sambo Marafa: Why I quit Matawalle’s govt

Sambo Marafa, a younger brother of Kabir Marafa, former senator, says he resigned from the administration of Bello Matawalle, governor of Zamfara, to give room for other people to be considered for political appointment.

Until his resignation, Sambo was the special adviser to the governor on comprehensive agricultural revolution programme.

Jamilu Zannah and Bilyaminu Shinkafi, commissioners for higher education and science and technology, respectively, also resigned their appointments.

In a statement on Sunday, the younger Marafa said it would amount to “extreme selfishness” to put himself before those who were “persecuted” in the struggle to liberate the state from the past government of Abdulaziz Yari.

“Looking back at the journey from our party congresses, to rancorous party primaries and the long journey through the state high court, appeal court and finally the supreme court and the massive support my brother got from the length and breadth of our state and even beyond, I reasoned, it would amount to extreme selfishness to put myself first before so many prominent members of my brother’s political camp, especially those that were either imprisoned, sacked, or wickedly sidelined/redeployed,” he said.

“All because of the struggle to emancipate our state. I resigned to make room for some of them to be considered.”

Sambo said before tendering his resignation, he spoke with his brother who advised him to inform the governor.

“When I informed the governor, he reasoned with me and he thus happily accepted my resignation, wished me well in my business and promised to look for a suitable replacement from one of our deserving members,” he said.

“Like my brother, I will always pray and work for the success of Matawalle’s administration because his success is ours. I’m ready to make any sacrifice for our beloved state.”

He added that the people of Zamfara should support the Matawalle administration.
