Habibu Sara, a former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa, has been remanded for allegedly defaming Muhammad Badaru, governor of the state.
Sara is accused of defaming the governor on radio programmes that aired in the state between April 25 and 26.
During his radio appearances, the former APC chairman was said to have alleged that Badaru was working to undermine the incoming administration of Umar Namadi, Jigawa governor-elect.
Sara is also said to have accused the governor of mismanaging the state resources.
TheCable understands that Badaru complained to the police and had Sara and one Karami Jahun arrested for “defamation”.
Both Sara and Jahun were arraigned before a magistrate court on Thursday where they pleaded “not guilty” to a three-count charge levelled against them.
Thereafter, Auwal Balago, the magistrate, ordered them to be remanded in a correctional facility pending the hearing of the matter.
The case was adjourned until May 8.
