Senate President Bukola Saraki has appointed Danladi Abubakar as his special adviser on special duties.

Abubakar was a senator representing Taraba north in the eight senate until the supreme court sacked him in 2017.

The apex court held that Abubakar was not the legitimate candidate to represent the constituency in the senate because he did not have the highest number of votes in the primary election.

Shuaibu Lau has since been sworn-in as his replacement.

In a statement on Sunday, Yusuph Olaniyonu, media aide to Saraki, said the former lawmaker’s appointment takes immediate effect.

The senator had served as chairman of the committee on New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) and he was a member of other committees.

Before the 2015 election, he was also a deputy governor of Taraba.
