Saraki, Dogara absent at Independence Day parade — first time in three years

Senate President Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara, speaker of the house of representatives, were conspicuously absent at the Eagle Square, Abuja, during the 2018 Independence Day parade.

Since 2015, this is the first time that both men would miss the programme orgamised on an annual basis.

President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and Walter Onnoghen, chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), all attended the event.

Yakubu Gowon, former head of state, was also in attendance.

Saraki and Dogara fell out with the government of Buhari and subsequently defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
