Multiple airstrikes by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) have reportedly killed tens of fighters of the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP).

According to Zagazola Makama, a publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the terrorists were in a convoy when NAF struck.

The incident was said to have happened on Sunday as the terrorists moved a convoy between Shettima Abbor and Galmasku in Damboa, Borno state.

The terrorists were said to have been killed by the NAF’s recently acquired Super Tucano light attack aircrafts.

A source reportedly said the strikes were carried out following surveillance missions showing two moving vehicles and several motorcycles conveying the terrorists.

The source said that the fighter jets dispatched for the operation “scored an accurate hit at the convoy, resulting in the destruction of one hilux vehicle, killing all its occupants.”

“The bombardments also eliminated some of the terrorists on mottocycles while others escaped,” he said.

He said “the subsidiary operation was an air interdiction operation aimed at taking out identified terrorists’ targets in the Lake Chad and Sambisa Forest areas of Borno.”

The source also added that the armed forces, operating in concert with other security agencies and stakeholders, will sustain its efforts to rid the north-east of all terrorists and other criminal elements.
