S’court receives records of appeal on Zamfara APC suit
April 14
22:17 2019

The supreme court has received the records of appeal in the suit challenging the legitimacy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections in Zamfara.

The appeal was filed by Mukhtar Shehu, the state governor-elect, and 37 others before the apex court, challenging the judgment of a Sokoko appellate court which nullified the ruling party’s primaries in the state.

The court of appeal had set aside the judgment delivered by the Zamfara high court allowing the APC to field candidates in the 2019 elections.

Following the appellate court’s ruling, INEC withheld certificates of return of the governor-elect and that of the lawmakers-elect.

The party and its candidates refused the ruling, seeking to set aside the judgment of the appeal court.

No date has been set for the hearing of the appeal. The parties in the suit are expected to file, serve and exchange briefs before a date can be fixed for the hearing of the matter.
