President Muhammadu Buhari says the country’s security system must do more to put a stop to acts of violence.

The president said this in reaction to the killing of Philip Shekwo, chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa state.

Shekwo was abducted from his residence in Lafia, the state capital, on Saturday night and later found dead.

In a statement on Sunday, Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, quoted Buhari as saying the late chairman’s contribution towards strengthening the party would not be forgotten.

The president said investigation into the killing would reveal if it “was an assassination or kidnapping-related murder.”

“I strongly condemn the killing of Philip Shekwo. He was kind and jovial,” Buhari was quoted to have said.

“His contribution towards strengthening the party in Nasarawa State will not be forgotten. May his soul Rest in Peace.”
