A grade 1 area court in Karmo, Life Camp, Abuja on Wednesday sentenced a 32-year-old security man, Samaila Yakubu to one month imprisonment for stealing iron frames.

Abubakar Sadiq, the judge, gave Yakubu an option to pay N5,000 fine and warned him to desist from committing crimes.

He said the sentence was to serve as a deterrent to other would-be offenders.

The convict, who works at Itex Furniture, Idu Industrial Layout, Abuja, was convicted on the one-count charge levelled against him.

Yakubu prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, saying “it was the devil that pushed me” adding that the company had been nice to him.

Judith Obatomi, the prosecutor, had told the court that one Kadiri Victor of same address reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on July 14.

Obatomi said that the convict, on that same date, was caught stealing some iron frames for school desks, entrusted in his care.

She also said during police investigation he confessed and admitted to committing the crime.
