The Kogi state government says it has arrested a gang of criminals and recovered 53 stolen transformers in Obajana, Lokoja LGA.

In a statement on Monday, Ismaila Isah, special adviser to the governor on media, said the persons who stole the electricity transformers from the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) facility were arrested on their way to Lagos.

He said the incident “stalled the installation of the transformers in different communities in the state earlier in the year”.

Isah added that the recovered transformers have now been kept at an Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) facility within the state.

The statement added that the arrested suspects gave information that led to the arrest of a fleeing member of the gang in Ilorin, Kwara state, and that of the supposed receiver of the transformers in Lagos.

Commending the security operatives, Usman Ododo, governor of Kogi, said his administration is determined to stamp out crimes and criminality in the state.

He assured security agencies of maximum support by the government to ensure the security of lives and property in all parts of the state.
