Stakeholders in the security sector say there is a need for improved synergy among law enforcement agencies to successfully tackle insecurity in the country.

The position was contained in a communique issued after a one-day meeting organised by the Kaduna state emergency management agency (KADSEMA) in collaboration with Nigerian Maritime and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

The meeting, themed ‘Security and Safety in Emergency’, held recently in Kaduna.

According to the communique, the meeting was part of efforts to strengthen inter-agency synergy among officers of the armed forces, police and other security agencies.

“The society should promote values, norms, rules and laws that uphold peaceful coexistence,” the communique reads.

“Inter-agency rivalry is still a stumbling block against the fight against insecurity. No agency or government can do it alone without collaboration with each other.”

While emphasising that security is everyone’s business, the participants at the workshop also spoke on the “need to elect leaders that have the ability to secure the people”.

Among security agencies represented at the meeting included the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and the federal and state fire services.
