The senate has passed the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Act (Amendment) Bill and the Dietitians Council of Nigeria (Establishment) Bill.
The bills from the house of representatives were represented by Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, senate leader and senator representing Ekiti central.
Bamidele led the debate during plenary on Tuesday and moved the motion for concurrence, while it was seconded by Olalere Oyewumi, senator representing Osun west.
The bills were read for the second time after a debate on their general principles and the senate then resolved into the committee of the whole their consideration.

After deliberations, both bills were read a third time and passed.
Although the Federal College of Nursing and Midwifery, Oke-Igbo, Ondo state (Establishment) Bill was listed on the order paper, it was stepped down following the federal government’s decision not to establish any higher institution for the next seven years.
The Criminal Code Act (Amendment) Bill, which was also listed, was referred to the senate committee on judiciary, human rights and legal matters for further review.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio said the amendments would promote road safety and improve public health awareness.
“I hope that the conditions of our roads will be regulated and lead to safety. I also encourage the FRSC to ensure that our roads are safe,” Akpabio said.
He added that the new Dietitians Council of Nigeria would play a vital role in public health education.
“For the Dietitians Council of Nigeria, this well-regulated bill will ensure that they assist the public, through the National Orientation Agency, on what they should eat and prevent diseases,” he said.
