The senate has confirmed the reappointment of Umar Danbatta as the executive vice-chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

Danbatta was confirmed after Opeyemi Bamidele, a member of the senate committee on communications, presented a report for consideration on the floor of the upper legislative chamber on Tuesday.

In June, the ministry of communications and digital economy said President Muhammadu Buhari had approved Danbatta’s reappointment for a second term of five years.

In July, the president had asked the senate to confirm Danbatta as the executive vice chairman of the NCC.

Buhari’s request was contained in a letter read by Senate President Ahmad Lawan on the floor of the upper legislative chamber on July 7.

While presenting the committee’s report on the floor of the senate on Tuesday, Bamidele said Danbatta met the requirements expected of him.

“The committee met and carried out the screening exercise and the nominee responded well,” the Ekiti lawmaker said.
